What Does Bentonite Clay Do For Your Skin?

This bentonite clay mask recipe for acne prone and oily skin is perfect for those who suffer from acne or bad complexion and helps perform a deep cleanse on your skin but is also beneficial for those who already have perfect skin and a great complexion and helps to keep your skin looking its best.

Bentonite clay helps:

  • fight acne and blemishes
  • oily skin
  • balance complexion
  • detoxify your skin of bad bacteria, chemicals and heavy metals
  • deep pore cleansing to get rid of built up impurities
  • reduce the appearance of pores
  • reintroduce minerals and rejuvenate your skin
  • reduce appearance of dark spots

When used as a face mask, the clay mask feels provides a “pulsating” feeling on your skin while it dries and tightens.  Once removed, your skin will feel utterly smooth and clean.  Any redness will fade in a short time.

What you need for the CBD Infused Bentonite Clay Face Mask Recipe For Acne Prone And Oily Skin

This recipe only requires a few simple ingredients.  We have linked each ingredient to where you can buy them if they are not already available.

You will need:

  • 1 Tsp. Bentonite Clay
  • 1 Tsp. Apple Cider Vinegar (“with the mother” is best)
  • 1 Tsp. Purified Water (optional to reduce overwhelming aromas – but if not using water, then use 2 tsp. of Apple Cider Vinegar)
  • 1-3 Drops of Broad Essentials CBD Infused Essential Oils (Lavender, Rosemary, Tea Tree or Lemon)
  • Glass bowl (plastic or wooden will work as well)
  • 1 Plastic or Wooden Spoon
  • 1 Face Mask Brush

The water is optional to simply thin it out a bit as needed.  Metal is best to be avoided as it can mess with the ingredients PH.  I prefer Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother due to its incorporation of proteins, enzymes and friendly bacteria.  Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar is my preferred brand although others will work fine, I just prefer the additional benefits of it.  When Bentonite Clay is mixed with just water, it comes out clumpy due to its high PH level.  When mixed with a lower PH substance like Apple Cider Vinegar, its blends much more smoothly and is way easier to apply.

What Does Apple Cider Vinegar Do For Your Skin?

Apple Cider Vinegar is often used to support your gut health as well as provide benefits for your body. FOr skin, Apple Cider Vinegar also contains some amazing benefits you may not have been aware of.

Apple Cider Vinegar can help to:

  • reduce age spots, unclog pores
  • eliminate acne and pimples
  • reduce wrinkles
  • balance your skin’s pH levels.

What Do CBD Essential Oils Do For Your Skin?

CBD and essential oils are both beneficial for your skin.  CBD has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antifungal and antibacterial properties.  Many essential oils contain the same benefits as well as host of others.

Lavender is great for balancing oily skin and provides antiaging benefits while helping to keep your skin moisturized and nourished.

Tea Tree is well known for its acne fighting abilities.

Lemon is great for your skin while providing additional antibacterial and antimicrobial benefits – not to mention a great citrus scent.

Rosemary is a strong antibacterial and helps reduce inflammations and skin blemishes.

Mixing The Mask

Most DIY face mask recipe with Bentonite Clay and Apple Cider Vinegar call for a 1:1 ratio or even a 1:2 ratio in some cases.  These ratio help to make the mask smooth and easier to apply.  When I first discovered this easy to make recipe, I tried it with the 1:1 ratio.  While it applied nice and evenly, it did however carry a strong aroma of ACV and tended to make eyes water.  When we use our masks, we are looking for a soothing experience and this is not what I was getting. By including the addition of water, the mask was still easy to mix but much more bearable odor-wise and more pleasant to relax with.

To make your mask, make sure you shake your Apple Cider Vinegar, especially if its organic and has “mother” in it.  If you choose not to dilute the Apple Cider Vinegar, then just use the 2 Tsps. of ACV instead.

Applying And Removing The Mask

Using a facial mask brush is the preferred way to apply a mask but you can absolutely apply it with your fingers if you don’t have one available.  Using a brush helps to avoid any bacteria that might be on your hands getting transferred to your face.  You may also find when applying with my fingers that product is lost.

To apply:

Using the face mask brush (or fingers), apply an even layer to your face and jawline taking care to not get too close to your eyes.  It is best to start by first applying a thin layer to your face and then evening out with a second layer.  Your finished mask should be about an 1/8″ thick layer when fully applied so its not super thin, but a more moderate application.

Allow the face mask to sit and do its work for about 10 minutes and then wash it off.

DO NOT LET IT FULLY DRY!

This is not a dry face mask – we have more recipes for dry face mask recipes in our blog recipes section.  This mask is intended to help reduce and prevent acne and uses ingredients geared toward that end and is not intended to fully dry.

TIPS:

After washing off the face mask, moisturize with a CBD infused oil such as jojoba, grapeseed or hemp seed oil to replenish and lock in the moisture and continue the balancing of the oily skin while not clogging your pores and preventing bacteria from building back up in your pores.

This CBD infused face mask recipe for acne prone and oily skin can be used about 3 or 4 days in a row during the initial cleansing but once your skin begins to clear, 1-2 times a week is appropriate for maintenance and prevention.  During the first week, you should use a moisturizer after to ensure your skin doesn’t overly dry out in the process.

It is best to apply the face mask after a shower or facial cleansing so you can avoid trapping and adding any additional bacteria and contaminants in your skin when using this recipe.
